Senior Scientist
Dr. JohnEric Smith is an exercise scientist with interests in exercise metabolism and performance. As an exercise scientist in the Exercise Performance Lab at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI), JohnEric conducts research investigating the effects of various ingredients on physiological and performance measures and utilizes stable isotopes to investigate substrate utilization during prolonged exercise. Originally from Georgia, JohnEric came to GSSI from Auburn University, where he studied Exercise Science receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 2000 and 2003, respectively. In 2008, JohnEric received his PhD in Exercise Science from Auburn University under the guidance of David Pascoe, PhD. JohnEric is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He has presented and co-authored numerous presentations related to exercise metabolism, exercise/work performance, and thermoregulation. In his spare time, JohnEric enjoys cycling, hiking, weight training, and multi-sport events.
